Liverpool University Press (LUP) is pleased to announce the publication of its second academic monograph funded entirely by the Opening the Future (OtF) library membership scheme.

LUP published their first OtF-funded OA book in July 2022, and are pleased to announce they are now releasing their second OA OtF title. Empire Found: Racial Identities and Coloniality in Twenty-First Century Portuguese Popular Cultures by Daniel F. Silva is freely available worldwide to read and download from the LUP website at liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/books/isbn/9781802071122

The book is part of the Press’s successful ‘Contemporary Hispanic and Lusophone Cultures’ series and examines a range of contemporary popular cultural production (literature, football, musical production, and celebrity culture) in critical conversation with intellectual production of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is available to buy in print and the OA version will also shortly be available on OAPEN and listed on DOAB.

Sandra Sousa, Associate Professor of Portuguese at the University of Central Florida said "Daniel F. Silva’s book will make an important, innovative, and much needed contribution in the field of Lusophone Studies and beyond. This original book interrogates Portugal’s historical depths of historical, linguistic, symbolic and political ties to its former colonies and the meaning of these articulations for the country’s post-imperialism and current notions of Portuguese cultural identity."
